The Mackenzie Hard Court in Linden will host what can easily be considered one of the biggest grudge-games in local basketball tomorrow when Dyna’s Ravens and Courts Pacesetters clash.
Victory Valley Royals and Amelia’s Ward Jets will also battle in the 2011 Brusche’s Basketball Classic.
Playing at MSC Hard Court on Wednesday, Royals upset the Kashif and Shanghai Kings 55-37 while Jets edged defending Champions, Wismar Pistons 45-40 as the pair advanced to face each other in semi-finals.
Courts Pacesetters trampled Macabbees 75-45 at the Burnham Basketball Court with the Ravens earning their spot in the semis by virtue of a no-show of the New Amsterdam Warriors. National Captain Steve Neils Jr, Marvin Hartman, Jason Alonzo, Omally Sampson
and Orin Rose were the five players Coach Abdulla ‘Zico’ Hamid used.
For the Royals, junior national point guard, Marlon Pollydore, Orlan Glasgow and Chris Williams led a seemingly young bunch of players to victory in a game that was exciting from jump ball.
Pollydore, fresh off of his tour with the Inter Guiana Games Basketball (IGG) team in Suriname, out-played Neils at the top, picking up a few steals from the national captain, much to the delight of the crowd.
Neils (10), Alonzo (10) and Marvin Hartman (7) tried to keep the Kings in the game but the Royals went 30-18 at halftime. Glasgow finished with 25 points that included a fast-break dunk. Pollydore ended with 12 points.
Meanwhile, spectators were kept alive in the Pistons/Jets contest from jump ball. Pistons, playing without their leading scorer Quincy ‘Prog-Z’ Jones led 13-10, but Jets stole the lead 22-21 at half time. Domain Webster topped all scorers with 15 points and Guard Kevin Joseph had 10 points for Jets while Stryon Obermuller (10 points) was the only in double digits for Pistons.
