Liquor store owners have until October 31st to renew their licences, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has warned.
According to the tax agency, it will soon commence a campaign to ensure that owners of stores selling liquor are in compliance with the requirements of the Intoxicating Liquor Licencing Act. Store owners not in possession of licences and found selling liquor will have their goods seized and forfeited.
Licence holders are required to pay a renewal fee of $5000 and submit to the Licence Revenue Office their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), their 2011 Liquor Licence, identification, and the completed renewal application form.
According to GRA, renewal of licences is also being facilitated at the GRA’s Anna Regina, Essequibo, and New Amsterdam, Berbice offices.
“In accordance with Section 12 (1) (b) of the Intoxicating Liquor Licencing Act, Chapter 82:21, the District Licencing Board can reject a renewal application, if the applicant within the preceding 12 months conducted the business in such a way so as to be considered a nuisance in the neighbourhood and or if the applicant has neglected to comply with the requirements in making his/her application,” GRA indicated in a statement.
