One of Guyana’s most lucrative cycle meet, held in memory of one of this country’s leading riders, the late Troy Humphrey is set for today at the National Park.
Cyclist’s, young and old, racing bike to BMX will all be competing not only for attractive prizes sponsored by Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products of Ketley Street, Charlestown and Kurwin Chase & Family, but to also remember an athlete who was a fierce competitor during his short stay on earth.
The Meet has been organised by the Roraima Bikers Club and the best riders in the land from Berbice, West Demerara and Linden expected to be on show.
A total of 12 races will be contested – BMX 6-8 years; BMX 9-11years; BMX 12-14 years; BMX Open; Juniors/Juveniles; Upright/Mountain Bikes – Open; Ladies Racing Bikes; Veterans Under 50years; Veterans Over 50years; Seniors/Elite; Team Time Trials and the feature event which will be a 35-lap contest.
Some of the riders who are expected to be on show are Alonzo Greaves, Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Marlon Morrison, Albert ‘Bertie’ Philander, Alex Mendes, Raymond ‘Steely’ Newton, Robin Persaud, Junior Niles, Lear Nunes, Paul De Nobrega, Rawle Leal, Mario King, Richard Charles, Keon Thomas, Alfie Sonaram, Turan Garbarran, Nicholas D’Andrade, Christopher Goring, Anthony Fariah, Maurice Fagundes, Adrian Sharma, Jonick La Rose, Christopher Griffith, Julio Melville, Samuel Dick, Ricardo Sharma, Phillip Piggott, Sybourne Fernandes, Esau O’Selmo, Wilfred Thom, Harry Lall, Jonnick La Rose, Jubhara Ming and Yousuf Latiff.
