Dear Editor,
If Barack Obama was to start collecting a pension at the same time as Bharrat Jagdeo, he would be entitled to US $199,700 per year. Bharrat Jagdeo gave himself US $180,000 per year. Bharrat Jagdeo pays no taxes on his US$180,000. Barack Obama will have to pay US federal taxes of 33 percent and Illinois state taxes of five percent on his US$199,700 leaving him with US$127,109 in pension.
Compare that to Bharrat Jagdeo’s US $180,000 tax-free pension paid for by the sweat, blood and tears of the working class people of Guyana and you get an image that makes you want to truly vomit in disgust.
While the Guyanese people can’t afford to buy chicken in their own land and stagger under the weight of financial burdens, corruption and PPP misery, always thinking of running away to a good and immensely better life in the USA, Bharrat Jagdeo pays himself more than the man running the country which many in this dear land of Guyana see as the land of milk and honey, the good old USA.
Barack Obama, the President of the great nation of the United States of America that gave hundreds of thousands of poor and fleeing Guyanese a place of opportunity and success, will collect less in pension than the Champion of the Guyana Dirt. The President of a nation that gave shelter to the multitudes fleeing this nation from the failed policies of PNC and the PPP and Bharrat Jagdeo will earn less in pension than the tin pot elected dictator of a broken state.
Hundreds of thousands of Guyanese who found a better life in the country of Barack Obama send millions of US dollars in remittances to keep the decrepit cesspool Bharrat Jagdeo runs as Champion of the Guyana Dirt afloat. Barack Obama’s country enables Bharrat Jagdeo’s countrymen to stay alive in the horrors of Jagdeo rule.
Barack Obama runs a nation of almost 400 million people and is the leader of the free world. Yet Barack Obama will earn less in pension than Bharrat Jagdeo every year. Some travesties and wrongdoings just make your skin crawl. Vote for change, people of Guyana, vote for change.
M. Maxwell

The thing that hurts more is Obama has a wife and two kids and this thing of a man don’t even have a wife.
That is a very salient point and Mr Persaud also points to an adjacent factor that lends credence to the accusations of slackness and corruption by our goodfellowish president.Together the 2 points epitomizes the status quo and by extension the mentality of the Govenring party, the opposition and the nation at large.
How can Guyana (at per capita of USD $2,500) afford a higher pension ($180,000) for its retiring president than United States’ president (at per capita of $50,000)?
This has to be one of the more outrageous acts pulled on the Guyanese nation. How did this bill pass in the Guyanese parliament? Did the PNC support this bill?
I am told that the PNC did vote for this bill, because the bill also contained a measure that provided for lots of perks and increased pension for the leader of the Opposition..
This outrage is in a class by itself. It does make you want to vomit. It does make your skin crawl.
mon ami, maxwell, this is what dictators do… they deprive the ordinary, honest, hard working people to fill their own pockets. but it does not end their, they continue to give away the people’s monies in make work sham contracts that does nothing for people or country… take a look at all the sham contracts awarded… that’s just a tip of the big iceberg!!!
cant we see the PPP ideas,Guyana dont have money to create jobs and take care of education and health but to pay hight pensions to ppp/c members including Jagdeo
now i understand why there are so many opposition parties, its like applying for a job with good benefits after four of doing nothing and who cares for an eight years term since they money is available after four years. Thanks M.Maxwell you did a good job to let us know.
I believe we all got it wrong, this is not a pension for Jagdeo this is his monthly salary as president of Guyana for a third term.
(1) It should be noted that Jadgeo is a young healthy man and as such should not be entitled to a pension at his age, the retirement age in Guyana is 55 years(what a disgrace)
(2) Jadgeo who has claimed that he has many offers for a job outside of Guyana has stated, that he will remain in Guyana where he will get the (pension) salary, security, a staff and utilities paid while serving a third term as president of Guyana without the title.
We can then see if Jagdeo has any offers outside of Guyana and what they are, Also the salary/pension can be withdrawn and used to provide proper food and eating utensils/dishes for the patients at the mental hospital.
My dogs have better utensils/dishes than those shown in the photograph of the mental hospital appearing in this newspapers yesterday and yet this government likes to talk about development. They talk should about the shame and disgrace that they have brought on Guyana over the last 19 years.
Sick just sick. The thing about it is that this bill was made public before it was passed. Was everybody asleep? It was the one time the main opposition and the ruling party actually co-existed so both leaders can full their pockets. Why do you guys think Robert Corbin doesn’t want to relinquish the seat of leader of the opposition?
With a new Govt in place this should berepealed
I do hope so!!!
I would dare to wonder if any head of state in this universe who rules such a small .country with a small GDP pleasure themself with such an unimaginable huge pension . REALLY.
It is patectic to know that a head of state of such a small country with a small GDP pleasures himself with such a ridiculosly huge pension while the pension for an old age person is meagre $7,200.00.REALLY.
MR Jagan who died ten years after leaving office..i assume she received usd 180 000 per year in pension…a painful 1,800,000 american dollars total. Mr Jagdeo is only 47 yrs of age at 2011.
while I completely n utterly disagree with the hefty pension of President Jagdeo, there is absolutely no way on this earth u can compare the pension of a former US president to that of Mr Jagdeo, the math just wouldn’t add up, Obama will probably never ever touch his pension, considering the fact he is estimated to rake in within $200,000-$350,000 per speaking engagements and appearance fees, appearance that would last anywhere from 15 mins to an hour , Bill Clinton made over 75 million in 2010 from speaking engagement n appearance, at one appearance ,that I know of personally where he was paid $65,000 for a 10 mins speech n a few photos at my school graduation, who in their right mind will pay Jagdeo to show his face anywhere, well apart from the gd folks out there in Richmond Hill New York.
SIMPLE we will borrow and beg to pay his pension….all the young ones with their cups behind the Don on their manifesto cover.
No wonder he wants Don to get elected.
Comes down to $500.US or G$100,000 per day
please dont delete
For Jag to get such a pension he had to have the support of Corb they are both at the “TROUGH” anyhow the new govt. with a majorty has to bring a motion in parliament to remove such also if there`s any part of the constitution which has to be ammended so be it. Integrity has been lost within those two lost souls;they just make me puke. What did corb do with te $50k US that went missing during the last election.
