The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association is all set to host its first international softball tournament on October 28, 29 and 30. Sixteen teams will take part in this three day tournament which will be held simultaneously at four venues in Georgetown. The venues are Bourda, Everest, Queens College Ground and Ministry of Sports Ground.
Preliminary matches and the semi-finals will be played at these venues on Friday and Saturday. The two finals will be played at Everest only, on Sunday Oct. 30 starting at 10:30am.
Admission is $500 for the finals, while Friday and Saturday are free at all venues.
Sixteen teams, eight foreign and eight local will be competing for “World’s Softball Club Supremacy”.
The tournament will be divided into two categories of eight teams each.
Guyana Cup Open 20/20: This is for male players of any age. The eight teams taking part will be divided in two zones of four teams each, with the semi-finals playing at 1:30pm on Saturday.
The teams taking part in this category are: Dant’s XI Canada, SFSCL All Stars (South Florida Softball Cricket League), NYSCL All Star (New York Softball Cricket League), Florida Hurricanes, Memorex, Cotton Field Wild oats, Trophy Stall and Regal. Winning prize is $600,000 + Trophy. Runner-Up gets $200,000 + Trophy. Trophy will be available for Man-of-the-match.
Guyana Master Cup 20/20: is for men 40 years and older. This will be the same format as the Guyana Cup Open. The eight teams taking part are: NYSCL Legend, Canada Beavers, Softball Cricket International (Miami), New York President XI, GFSCA Floodlights, Regal Seniors, Savage Masters and Albion Masters. Winning Prize is $400,000 + Trophy. Runner-Up is $100,000 + Trophy. Trophy is available for Man-of-the-match also.
Most Valuable Players for each tournament will receive a ten penny weight, fourteen carat men’s bracelet.
Official sponsors for this tournament are Steve’s Jewelry, Trophy Stall, Survival, Digicel, Mike’s Pharmacy, Clear Waters, Busta Soft Drink, Bel Air Texaco and Ray’s Auto Sales.
There will also be four female teams involved in three 10/10 exhibition softball matches on Sunday at the Guyana Cup finals. Two semi-finals and final; Teams participating are 4R Lioness, Mike’s Wellwoman, Trophy Stall Angels and Rose Hall Metro Females.
