Nicole Gentle and Otesha Charles, the two players identified for national duties in the Women’s U-20 World Cup qualifiers by Peter Barry, a licensed coach living in the United Kingdom, are good and ready to do their country proud.
Mr. Barry made that revelation when he spoke with Kaieteur Sport this week from his United Kingdom base. He said that both play for a top English club, Charlton FC but Gentle has recently been released from another top club, Chelsea. “She is having a try out at several top clubs right now but is highly likely to sign for Charlton,” intimated Mr. Barry. He further said that both play for top English clubs and much is expected from them.
He said that Gentle, a seasoned player from the Chelsea Football Academy, is a dexterous, versatile and skillful player, while Charles is strong with adept goal scoring ability.
Both women expressed delight at the opportunity to represent their country but are a mite disappointed that Mr. Barry was not selected to comprise a part of the coaching staff. Mr. Barry is currently the Managing Director of Solidrock Football Academy in the United Kingdom. His contribution to the development of his charges recently received commendation when he was nominated to carry the Olympic torch in the UK. “I would like to wish the respective teams, the Jaguars and the Lady Jags, all the best in their world cup endeavours,” said Mr. Barry.
