Outstanding performances by Zaheer Mohamed, Rashaad Rasheed, Dillon Retemiah and Denard Lewis highlighted the 2nd round of the Thakur Lokram/Wakenaam Cricket Committee Twenty20 cricket competition on Sunday last.
At Maria’s Pleasure, Sans Souci Jaguars overcame the host by 4 wickets. All-rounder Kennard Lewis slammed eight sixes and two fours in a top score of 70 and was ably supported by Bernard Lewis who made 33 (4×6) and Looknauth Persaud 32 (3×6 2×4) as Maria’s Pleasure which took first strike posted a respectable 190-8 off their 20 overs.
Pacer Zaheer Mohamed bagged 4-27 off 4 overs despite sustaining a shoulder injury while bowling and Latchman Dindial claimed 2-10 off 3 overs. The Jaguars in reply lost an early wicket with the score on 10 in the second over but Rashaad Rasheed 58 (7×6), Nokta Moses 44 (4×6 3×4) and Satrohan Shimnandan 18 took the fight to the opposition bowlers before they were dismissed in quick succession.
The visitors then lost two more wickets before Mohamed, who made an unbeaten 24 (3×6) and Gladwyn Henry 2*, saw their team to victory in 19.2 overs; ending on 191-6.
At the Wakenaam Community Center Ground, the game which was scheduled for a 10:00hrs start between Sans Souci and Zeelandia was washed out without a ball being bowled.
At 14:00hrs at the same venue, Noitgedacht got past Good Success by 2 runs. Noitgedacht batted first and scored 126-9 in 20 overs. National Under-15 player Kemo Paul led with 31, while Shemroy Hartman made 25 and Deonarine Persaud 24. Medium pacer Shoaib Namaz picked up 3-26 and left arm spinner Imran Khan 2-28.
Good Success in their turn at the crease fell short by 2 runs ending on 124-8 in their allotted overs. Wazir Khan 37, Chandreka Ragnauth 28 and Mustak Mohamed 17 not out were their principal scorers as Dillon Retemiah captured 4-24 and Persaud 2-28 for the winners.
