Defending R1 Vodka Guyana Open Golf Tournament Ladies champion Christine Sukhram speaking with Kaieteur
Sport on Wednesday last said that her performance at the Digicel Classic has provided her with the confidence and preparation that she believes will be crucial for her successful defence of the title.
Sukhram undoubtedly the best female golfer in Guyana is coming off a solid display in her last tournament before the prestigious event which tees off today, at the Lusignan Course.
She revealed that she is looking forward to the competition and is hoping to maintain her form which improved on the last day of competition when she came from behind to top the Ladies segment.
The quiet, but fiercely competitive Sukhram should start as hot favourite to retain her crown, while returning Men’s champion Avinash Persaud, who played consistent during the Digicel Classic is known as a ‘big’ tournament player and is strongly favoured to successfully defend his title.
Persistent showers over the past two days have hampered final preparations on the Course, but word is that the Organisers are hoping for a prompt start at 06:30 hrs.
Over 70 golfers from Guyana, USA, Canada, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago have confirmed participation in the two-day affair.
