Stiff competition is expected to highlight two days of sports activities organized the ACDA Sports Committee, in conjunction with Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell in the Sophia community over the weekend.
The action gets underway today with a king domino competition for teams in the Sophia area at Sealy’s Hideout, Dennis Street Sophia starting at 18:00hrs. Teams would be competing for a trophy and cash prizes donated by corporate Guyana. The entrance fee is $500 per player.
Consequently, Barnwell takes his activities to the ‘A’ Field Sophia School Tarmac for a 5 aside small goal and penalty shootout tomorrow, October 23.
The action commences at 09:00hrs and involves all area teams as well as outside teams from Lodge, Tiger Bay, Vryheid’s Lust and Kitty among others. Each team is allowed an additional 2 players in the eventuality of changes and will be required to pay an entrance fee of $4,000. Competing teams will vie for lucrative prizes including cash, trophies and medals.
The organizers are grateful to the many sponsors that have contributed to the success of the tournament including the Ministry of Local Government, and Mr. Ken Phillips who have donated a trophy and a football respectively.
