Digicel Golf Classic
After predicting that his game is good enough to hold off the field on the final day of competition, Canada-based and first day leader Roger Rajkumar vindicated his earlier pronouncements by grabbing the Digicel Golf Classic title which ended yesterday, at the Lusignan Course.
Starting the day with a handicap of 12 and a gross 73 and net 61, Rajkumar produced another consistent performance throughout the day to end with a gross 77 and a net 65 for a total net of 126 which relegated Ladies winner Christine Sukhram to the runner-up spot after she closed with a total net 137, while three other players finished with a similar net total, but were separated by the count back.
Defending Ladies champion Rita Heikens came third, while Vijay Deo and Dr. Ramsingh ended fourth and fifth respectively.
Munnaf Arjune won the Nearest to the Pin trophy, while Mohanlall Dinanauth copped the Lowest Gross accolade and Rajkumar carted off the Best Overall Gross and Lowest Net to crown a fantastic performance during the tournament.
Digicel’s CEO Gregory Dean speaking during the presentation ceremony promised the Company’s continued support not only for the tournament, but also in any area that would aid the further development of the sport.
He said that Digicel has clearly enjoyed being part of the tournament which has been in existence for the past three years and congratulated the respective winners.
President of the Club Brian Hackett in his remarks openly admitted that the tournament this year was bigger and better, a reference also to the network’s popular slogan, adding that the Company has been bringing good joy to the members of the club through its support.
He added that Digicel is one of those Companies that persistently demonstrates its seriousness about promoting the sport and even disclosed that the two parties recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to that effect.
Hackett stated that they are extremely happy that Digicel is on board and is looking forward to their continued support in the future.
He thanked the Company and its employees for coming out to the tournament and making it an occasion that everyone that attended enjoyed.
