The executive committee of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) has released the names of the nineteen eligible players to compete for a shot at Abigail McDonald’s national Scrabble title when that championship gets underway at the Bank of Guyana Sports Club on October 23, 26 & 30.
Those players are: Moen Gafoor, Abigail McDonald, James Krakowsky, Leon Belony, Ulric Harris, Colin Chichester, Orlando Michael, Julian Skeete, Ruby Cummings, Nicholas Grant, Grace Hercules, Rudolph Michael, Kampta Ramnarine, Michael Benjamin, Delon Moffat, Prudence Edwards, William Woolford, Keith Allicock and Wayne Cave.
Fifteen of these players were automatic qualifiers while the others were required to battle in a specially arranged tournament staged last week at the Malteenoes Cricket Club, Thomas lands.
The tournament will be played in an 18 rounds format with 6 games being contested each day. The organizers have intimated that the pairings will be circulated shortly in order to facilitate an early start on competition day. Players are asked to take note that their clocks will be activated promptly.
The action gets underway at 10:00 hours with the registration commencing at 09:30hrs. Entrance fee is $1,500 and the closing date is Thursday the October 20. The Tournament Director is Mr. Elton Chase with Ms. Hazel Anthony as his assistant.
