Ramcharitar Construction 50 overs KO final
A brilliant all round performance by Berbice Senior Inter County player Rajiv Ivan led Rose Hall Town
Gizmos & Gadgets to a 36 run victory over arch rivals Albion Community Centre in the final of the Ramcharitar Construction Services 50 over tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB).
Witnessed by a large and colourful crowd at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground, Ivan blasted a match saving innings of 64 off 62 balls before returning to take 3 for 21 from 6 overs with his off spin. The match started three hours late due to overnight and early morning showers and was reduced to 35 overs per side.
Albion invited Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets to take first strike after winning the toss and the experienced duo of Renwick Batson and Delbert Hicks posted 27 for the first wicket before Batson was caught behind off medium pacer Satesh Dwarka for 10.
National Under-19 player Dominic Rikhi and Hicks took the score to 49 in the 12th over before Hicks was well caught on the long off boundary for 24 which included two sixes, one of which resulted in the windshield of a vehicle being shattered.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets slipped to 50 for 3 when Rikhi was run out for 9 and then 56 for 4 when the inform Khemraj Mahadeo was bowled by National Under-15 off spinner Sharaz Ramcharran for 2.
Senior National player Clinton Pestano was dismissed for 5 at 61 for 5 in the 18th over but Ivan and Jason Sinclair added a crucial 76 for the 6th wicket. Ivan struck 5 boundaries and two huge sixes and his 64 before he was caught just inside the long off boundary by Veerapen Permaul off the bowling of Narsingh Deonarine.
Sinclair, who played the supporting role to Ivan was then dismissed for 24 (2×4) at 137 for 7. Eon Hooper 5 not out and Shailendra Shameer 7 not out batted out the overs as Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets ended their innings at 159 for 9 off their allotted 35 overs.
Bowling for Albion Community Centre Veerapen Permaul took 2 for 34 off his 7 overs and Narsingh Deonarine 2 for 38 from six.
Needing to score 160 runs from 35 overs to secure their second successive title, Albion Community Centre were given a 15 run opening partnership by Kandasammy Surujnarine and skipper Doodnauth Lallbeharry before Lallbeharry was beaten by pace of Pestano and bowled for 5 in the third over.
Former West Indies Test batsman Narsingh Deonarine joined Surujnarine and together they added 38 for the 2nd wicket with a dangerous looking Deonarine hitting 20 runs in one over from medium pacer Renwick Batson (2×4,2×6) before he was bowled by Ivan for 22 at 53 for 2 in the 8th over.
Off spinner Eon Hooper then bowled Sharaz Ramcharran in the next over for nought to leave Albion at 54 for 3. Further trouble came Albion’s way when Surujnarine was bowled by a cleverly flighted delivery from Hooper at 56 for 4 in the 11th over. Albion slipped to 79 for 7 by the 17th over as H. Ramdial (6), Andy Mohan (1) and David Latchaya (0) were dismissed cheaply.
Ramdial was LBW to Ivan, to lead off wild celebrations by the new champions and their large band of supporters. Ivan ended with bowling figures of 6-1-21-3, Hooper 7-1-21-3 and Shameer 3-1-9-2.
