Following a 45-minute recovery pool session last evening at the Princess Hotel, Guyana’s ‘Golden Jaguars’ left these shores this morning for Bermuda via the United States of America for their return game against the host nation as qualifying in the CONCACAF Zone of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 continues.
The Guyanese, fresh from a hard earned 2-0 win over hosts Barbados on Friday, their third consecutive win which leaves them atop Group B with 9 points are a confident unit according to Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover who was also quick to point out that they are guarding against complacency going into another crucial encounter.
Feeling the warmth of the Guyana fans in Barbados, Golden Jaguars Captain Christopher Nurse (No. 8) along with other teammates greet the fans following their 2-0 win over Barbados on Friday.
The ‘Golden Jaguars’ arrived back in Guyana yesterday minus their equipment and many of their personal luggage for most of the players owing to poor work and coordinating on the part of LIAT, the airline on which they traveled to and from Guyana.
Assurances were given by the airline that the equipment and luggage would have arrived in Guyana last evening at 20:00hrs.
Taking on Bermuda at home, Dover stated would not be an easy task given the fact that the Bermudians defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 to move to third place in Group B on 3-points from their 3-matches to date.
Guyana had a tough assignment against Barbados which came out all guns blazing on Friday last but the Guyanese played a patient game and waited on their chances to nail the opposition, urged on by a massive Guyanese crowd in the Land of the Flying Fish.
Second half goals from substitute Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams and Captain Christopher Nurse piloted the Jaguars to back to back 2-0 wins over the Bajans. The Jaguars will however be without the services of Nurse who received a second yellow card after being yellow carded in Guyana’s first game against the Bajans at the Providence National Stadium.
The FIFA 2011 Disciplinary Code Article 17 (Caution) 3 states “If a player receives a caution in two separate matches of the same FIFA competition, he is automatically suspended from the next match in that competition. The Disciplinary Committee may exceptionally depart from or amend this rule before the start of a particular competition. Any such decision reached by the Disciplinary Committee is final.”
Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson who had missed the Barbados game is expected to join the Jaguars for Tuesday’s game in Bermuda.
Dover also noted that the team held a discussion last evening where the players were reminded of the importance of staying focused and disciplined.
Guyana’s final two matches in this group will be played in November against Trinidad and Tobago on the 11th here and the 15th in the Twin Island Republic.
