Dear Editor,
I was lately exposed to a broadcast of the Plain Talk Programme hosted by Mr. Christopher Ram on C.N.S., Channel 6. The citizens of this nation are well aware that Linden is not a recipient of this broadcast. Therefore my source of information came through a copy on D.V.D.
Mr. Ram had for his guests, two distinguished Lindeners who presented themselves as representatives of the Civic component attached to the ruling People’s Progressive Party. Their agenda was based on securing Linden for the P.P.P. in the upcoming General Elections for the first time.
I truly admired their courage, but not their brains. What took place throughout the whole ordeal was a disgraceful representation that reflected on the intelligence gathering ability of these two individuals and can also incite some negative cogitations concerning Lindeners.
There was a period when Lindeners were stigmatized, based on our level of illiteracy (Thanks Regma). The poor and fragile attempt of the two gentlemen towards the answers that relates to highlighted issues in our nation has left a lot for many to think about.
I am convinced that many of us are literally “sailing” in our understanding of National Development and issues. Have we become lackadaisical to the point where we portray a “whatever come sa do” attitude?
How will we be able to challenge issues that affect our daily livelihood, tend to serious and urgent situations and venture out into the social and political arena if we are not acquainted with our Laws and Constitution?
There is a warning in the word of God that says “For the lack of knowledge people will perish.”
To gain knowledge, one has to be informed, and have an awareness of what is going on; to know the difference between what is right from what is wrong, information must be accumulated and analysed in order to retain a balanced conclusion. Therefore one’s knowledge is suppressed with limitation of access to information.
It is my opinion, that Linden’s position of only having one television station which is controlled by the state may have contributed to the deficiency and embarrassment of those two distinguished gentlemen of the Civic component.
I would like to use this as an example to encourage my fellow Lindeners to read more, especially the independent daily news, if we must make sound judgements based on information accumulated from all sides.
We may not be privileged as some of the other Regions, and maybe we might even envy them, because they have access to different views, debates, reasoning and perspectives, without censorship; but that must not deter us from getting into the “Know”.
In this regard, the National Democratic Front is committed to working assiduously to bring awareness and encouragement to the people of Linden.
The rest of this Nation must at no time believe that what they saw on this last Plain Talk programme is a true reflection of the intelligence within this Township.
