Noble House Seafoods 2nd division cricket
Ten-wicket match hauls from spinners Denis Squires and Shavishwar Sankar and Steven Sankar were among the highlights in last weekend’s Noble House Seafood second division two-day cricket competition.
At GNIC DCC defeated Third-Class by an innings and 36 runs. DCC resumed from their overnight score of 58 for 4, after they had dismissed Third-Class for 125 in first innings.
DCC eventually reached 255 all out in 52.4 overs with half centuries coming from Lawrence Smith (91) and Andrew Gibson 55. Off-spinner Ricky Bissendar was the chief wicket-taker with figures of 5-35 while Trevor Hossein supported with 3-79.
Third-Class batting a second time fell for 94 as off-spinner Squires 5-47 to follow up his 5-23 in the first innings. Skipper Jermaine Horatio supported with 3-25.
At GYO ground, the host the defeated Vikings Cricket Club, by an innings and 27 runs. GYO, 315/5 overnight declared on 359/6, and then dismissed Vikings for 97 as only Frederick Pestano (20) and Cris Jagdeo (16) reached double figures. Sankar (4-23) and Nankishur Narine (3-11) did the damage with the ball.
In their second innings GYO fell for 238 to lose despite 71 from Pestano, 35 from Davendra Beharry, 36 not out from Alim Haniff and 29 from Ryan Hemraj.
Sankar finished with 8-61 from 16 overs and 12 wickets for the game.
At Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) the match between hosts MYO and Malteenoes ended in a draw after Malteenoes who started day two on 14 without loss after MYO were dismissed for 192 on day one.
MYO secured a first innings lead of nine runs after Malteenoes were bowled out for 183 with opener Dellon Moffet and Kareem Naughton making 40 each. Off-spinner Shafik Ismile had 6-48 for MYO who declared on 135-9 in their second innings.
Ismile (37) returned to enjoy a good all-round game with the bat also.
Guyana Under-15 leg spinner Steven Sankar who had figures of 7-44 on the opening day claimed 4-52 in the second innings, to become the third-spinner on the day to claim a 10-wicket match haul.
At the University of Guyana (UG) Ace Warriors held on for a draw against GCC who began the day on 24-5. They fell for 67 as Gavin Charles top-scored with 25, medium pacer Clint Jones bagged 6-29.
Ace Warriors were then bundled out for 68 with Rawle Enmore making 29. Left-arm spinner Trevon France (5-34), medium pacer Bernard Bailey (3-22) and Winston Forrester (2-10) shared the wickets for GCC
GCC declared on 153-3 in their second innings with Winston Forrester top-scoring with 91.
Ace Warriors struggled to 53-9 as Bailey, France and Forrester picked up two wickets each for the Bourda boys.
