Over $8M on offer
The Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club in collaboration with the Shariff Racing stable has unveiled a mega horseracing package set for Sunday, October 23 at the Club’s entity No 6, Bel Air West Coast Berbice with Nine races carded for the day.
A whopping $8M is available in cash and trophies and the meet is expected to be one of the bigger race meets on the end of year Calendar. Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff the owner of the popular Shariff Racing Stable, which has been one of the successful stables this year, has decided to team up with the Norman Singh authorities to bring off another super horserace meet. is known for organising Mega meets, while the Shariff stable has been a success story this year. Already work has started on making the facilities better for the racing fans and take the standard of racing to a higher level. The double Decker grand stand is getting a face lift and the track is getting a relay while new rails more toilet facilities with running water will be installed.
Highlighting the days programme will be the feature B class event over a distance of 1800M. A whopping $1,200,000 is available for the winner.
The 3yrs old event for horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies has $800,000 as the first prize and will be going over a distance of 1400M.
The next race is for horses in the E and F Class division and has an encouraging $600,000 first prize and trophy over 1100M. While there will be no allowance for apprentice jockeys, allowance will be subject to sex of the animals.
There are two year old events. The race for 2 yrs old West Indies bred horses over 1100M has a $400,000 top prize and trophy. The 2 yrs old Guyana Bred event also over 1100M has a top billing of $250,000 and trophy.
The G1 & Lower race also over 1100M has a first prize of $250,000 and trophy. The I1 and Lower race is over a distance of 1400M with winnings set at $180,000.
I3 –3 yrs old & over Winner of 1 race only will be going over a distance of 1100M and the first prize set at $160,000.
The final race on the day is for Division 1, 2 & 3 or the J, K&L horses over 1100M for the $120,000.
The race meet will be held under the rules of the Guyana
Horse Racing Authority and interested persons can have their horses entered through Mohammed Shariff on Tel No: 611-0684, Ghansham Singh on No: 600-3626/649-3636 or Compton Sancho on No: 690-0569.
Entries close on October 16 at the Club’s Office No.6 Village, WCB.
The club has also set down some guidelines on which the race will be run on race day. Horses must be properly entered has no correction of classification will be entertained on race day and no late entries will be accepted. If five horses start a race no third prize will be paid. If four horses start a race the stakes will be reduced by 25 %; if three horses’ start a race the stakes will be reduce by 40%. The Club reserves the right to cancel or reframe any race on race day.
