Orlando Dale Archer, of A Fourth Street, South Sophia, was yesterday asked to post bail in the sum of $200,000 on a charge of robbing Robert Sukhai of one gold chain on September 29, last. The chain was said to value $300,000.
The man appeared before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer the charge of robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.
The court was told that on the day in question, at Carmichael Street in the vicinity of Bishops’ High School, Archer and another individual, approached Sukhai and demanded the man’s jewellery.
Archer was armed with a sharpened ice-pick and he threatened Sukhai and demanded that the man hand over his valuables. He proceeded to relieve the man of his gold chain before fleeing.
According to the prosecution, a police patrol happened to be passing minutes after the incident. The officers were told of the ordeal and a description was given of the alleged culprit. The officers subsequently caught up with Archer after a sweep of the area was conducted.
The item was not found on the individual.
The man’s lawyer told the court that his client was employed at Guyana Power and Light.
