Fidel Mc Pherson, who gave his occupation as a miner, was on Thursday remanded to prison following a charge of narcotics possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Mc Pherson, according to the prosecution, was held with a quantity of cannabis in a haversack he was wearing at the time of the arrest.
The court was told that in the Mango Landing area which is located in the interior, police officers were patrolling when they saw the defendant in a shop with a bag. The officers went to him and proceeded to conduct a routine search.
The haversack was taken from the man and a large parcel was found within. It was wrapped with a brown scotch tape wrapped around it. The parcel was cut opened in the presence of the accused man and it was revealed to be the drug contents.
Mc Pherson was subsequently taken to the Mabura Police Station where the substance was weighed and found to be 2041 grams.
The man pleaded not guilty. The matter has been transferred to the Christiansburg Magistrate’s Court for October 4.
