With just a few days away from race day, preparations have almost been complete and the hype has been created for the grand one-day Fund Raising horse race meet organised by the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the True Friendship Society this Sunday at the Club’s Track Arima Park, Rising Sun West Coast Berbice.
Eight races are listed for the day with over $5.2M in prize monies, trophies at stake. This event is expected to be a little more intense than the previous one last week. Over the last few days entries have increased and eth aim is to attract about 60.
Once again the top race is for the E class horses as the bigger animals continue to recuperate after their hectic season. Many are still out with injuries.
Most of the big stables were busy rounding out preparations at the various venues across the country and based on reports, all the animals are looking in excellent condition which means picking winners will be an arduous task.
Whilst the final list of runners have not yet been released the day promises to be scintillating and an action pack one. According to organiser Fazal Habibulla with the track on the fast side they have been doing daily maintenance on the turf to get it in the best of shape, with daily wetting and rolling.
The Trophy Stall of Bourda Market will sponsors the usual prizes for the champion jockey and champion trainer. Proceeds from the event will go towards charity. Persons interested in participating can still make contact with Fazal Habibulla at Chester Fry Bush Lot West Coast Berbice (232 0232; 648 6522; 657 7010), Inshanally Habibulla (623 4495; 623 5453), Donald or Zaleena Lawrie (225 4530; 225 4565). Race time on Sunday is 13:00hrs.
