Dear Editor
The Ministry of Housing and Water notes the article in your newspaper of Saturday September 24, 2011, under the caption “Mother of two frustrated at snail’s pace of Government Construction”.
We wish to acknowledge that the contractor who was awarded the contract to construct 17 of the core houses has not performed. This is despite several meetings convened by CHPA with the contractor for discussion of his poor performance.
The contractor also received several warning letters about his poor performance and more recently, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract, the contract was terminated.
CHPA is in the process of finalizing the procedures for the homes to be completed, in accordance with the standard Procurement Procedures applicable to the Low Income Settlements Programme, as soon as possible.
Beneficiaries will be further updated at a meeting to be convened on Monday October 3, 2011.
