Karibee Rice football tournament
Former Berbice Football Association (BFA) powerhouse Monedderlust FC were handed a sound thrashing by Rosignol United when the inaugural Karibee Rice sponsored football tournament kicked off on Sunday last at the Blairmont Estate Ground.
Rosignol was on fire against their arch rivals on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the Ancient County and leading the goal spree was none other than Delroy ‘Tugi’ Fraser who blasted the nets on four occasions.
Fraser found the back of the nets with accomplished ease in the 14th, 18th, 42nd and 73rd minute. It was virtually one way traffic as Monedderlust tried for all their worth but the network on the opposing side was always elusive.
By the half way mark, Rosignol was up 5-0 Sylvester Smith (30) and Clifford Campbell four minutes later tucking in the other first half efforts.
The same situation continued in the second half in terms of Rosignol dominating proceedings.
Monedderlust sought to inject some young talent (Atlyn Brown and Kevin Layne) with a view of changing their fortunes but that did not work out.
Were it not for many missed chances the final score line would have been more damning for Monedderlust. Scoring in the other second half goal Travis Henry (own goal) in the 57th.
The second game did not materialise; Courtland United gaining a walk over from Rose Hall FC which did not show up.
Competition is set to continue on Sunday October 9 at the Skeldon Estate and Burnham Park Grounds.
At Skeldon, a double header is carded with Courtland United led by Travis Williams and Clarence Charles taking on Pistons United led by Brian Simpson from 14:00hrs. The main attraction features Manchester United against Corriverton Links.
Over at Burnham Park in New Amsterdam, New Amsterdam United will lock horns with Cougars.
