Two men appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry to answer to the charge of assault.
Shawn Friends, of Bent Street, and Prince Pickering of 122 William Street, Kitty, according to the prosecution, unlawfully assaulted David Saul. The men reportedly saw Saul on South Road and for no purpose dealt him several cuffs about the body.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and the assailants were arrested.
But the defendants told the court that the story given by the victim was untrue in its entirety. The men claimed, that on the day of the incident they were approached by a group of men who asked them if they were ‘picking fare.’
After they replied that they were not, the complainant grabbed one of the men’s crotch.. The two men then proceeded to plead not guilty.
They were placed on $25,000 bail and had the matter transferred to another court. There the complainant decided to drop the complaint against the men telling the court that he feared for his safety.
When asked if he was promised or forced to make the decision he told the court he was not but was advised by a friend to let the matter go.
The charges against the men were subsequently dropped. The defendants and complainant were all ordered to sign a bond to keep the peace and to display good behaviour.
