The Premier Football League launch, which saw $705, 000 in equipment for development of football on the EBD sponsored by Coca Cola being presented, comprises of eight clubs from the East Bank of Demerara vying in two groups which includes the defending champions of the 2009 Premier League, Timehri Panthers.
Sales and Marketing Executive of Banks DIH, Carlton Joao said that Coca Cola has always been supportive in the development of football even at the highest level (World Cup) and this Premier League would not be any different as football on the East Bank of Demerara is as important as football elsewhere.
During the press conference Technical Director of EBDFA Mark Bradford revealed that the Coca Cola Premier Football League will see eight clubs competing in two groups (group A and B) with which the defending champions Timehri Panthers will lead group A, while the runner-up Grove Hi Tech will head group B.
The President of EBDFA Wayne Francois, announced at the launching of the League, that players and the fans will be excited and eager for the tournament as he expressed his gratitude to the Banks DIH and the Coca Cola Brand.
Meanwhile, the Sales and Marketing Executive of Banks DIH noted that there is a lack of venues for the Premier League on the East Bank of Demerara and it sends a signal of the interest of the grass root sport presently as the main idea was to host the games in the communities the footballers reside.
He added that there are only eight teams in the League and wished they were more and hopes that next year the number of clubs will increase.
The opening matches of the East Bank Demerara 2011 Coco Cola Premier Football League is slated for Sunday at Diamond Community Centre with Kuru Kuru Warriors against Diamond United from 14:00hrs and Grove Hi Tech against Yarrowkabra at 16:00hrs.
