Khan’s 5-wicket haul secures title for Good Success
A top bowling performance by medium pacer Wazir Khan guided Good Success to victory over Sans Souci by 82 runs in the final of the Salim Speed Boat Service 40 over cricket competition on Sunday last at the Wakenaam Community Center Ground.
Set 188 for victory after the game was reduced to 35 overs due to excessive moisture behind both bowling creases. Sans Souci folded for 105 in 19.5 overs. Opener Wayne Osborne and Essequibo Under-19 player Seon Venture were the leading run getters with 25 each while Varounie Sasepaul chipped in with 18. Khan who bowled with good control bagged 5-25 and Essequibo left arm spinner Imran Khan captured 3-12. Earlier Good Success who lost a few early wickets managed 187 all out in 34.4 overs mainly through sensible batting from Chandreka Ragnauth 33, Abdool Salim 32, Nazeer Mohamed 30, Imran Khan 29 and Benard Lewis 27.
Osborne who bowls off spin picked up 4-19 while there was one each for Roopnarine Persaud, Derwin Daniels, Sasepaul, Gurnauth Khemraj and Keddernauth Narain.
Khan picked up the man-of-the-match and best bowler in the competition awards while Satnarine Sahadeo was presented with the best batsman in the competition trophy.
Good Success and Sans Souci received a trophy each while the players from both teams were rewarded with free speed boat trips from Wakenaam to Parika.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony owner of the Speed Boat Service Salim Khan said he was pleased to contribute to the development of the sport and encouraged the players to be discipline. He also congratulated both teams for reaching the final.
