Yesterday a 16-year-old boy was nursing severe wounds after a schoolmate used a broken glass bottle to slit underneath his chin at the Saint Winefriede’s School, Newtown.
Kaieteur News understands that around 11:00hrs on Tuesday, last, one student observed that his younger brother, and one of his classmates were involved in a fight at the top flat of the school building.
He immediately hurried to the scene to part the fight and then tried to pacify his brother.
Meanwhile, the other lad involved in the fight went downstairs into the compound and picked up a bottle which he broke. He then rushed to the elder brother with the broken bottle and slashed him under his chin next to his neck.
This newspaper was further told that a teacher of the school rushed the injured student to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while the perpetrator was held in custody and welfare officers were called into the matter.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the GPHC yesterday afternoon, the victim’s mother, a security guard at Queens College, was at a loss for words concerning the situation.
The injured child was inside the Accident and Emergency Unit awaiting treatment.
His mother stated that she was not aware of everything that took place however, her two sons never had a history of “getting into fights” at their school(s).
She expressed the hope that relevant authorities would take the necessary actions.
