Busta Champion of Champions 50 overs cricket
The 2011 edition of the Busta Champion of Champions 50 overs cricket competition organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club got off to a flying start on last Saturday with four teams – Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Blairmont Community Centre, Port Mourant Karibee Rice and Edinburgh booking a place in the semifinals.
The matches were not affected by the weather and attracted sizable crowds at the various venues where players turned in several outstanding individual performances with both the bat and ball.
At the Port Mourant Cricket Ground; the home team had to hold their nerves to defeat the youthful and determined Memorex Bermine by 10 runs.
Discarded Berbice opener Moshin Perkhan continued his rich view of form by scoring a masterful 111 not out to steer Port Mourant Karibee Rice to a formable 250 for 4 off 50 their overs. Perkhan and fellow opener Mahendra Veersammy gave their team a solid start of 109 before Veersammy fell for 44 stumped by Ishwar Singh off Troy Mickle.
Shastri Persaud also scored an aggressive 46 (2×4 3×6) to support Perkhan while Mickle ended with two wickets for 54 runs from 10 overs.
In reply Memorex Bermine was well placed at 218 for 4 before collapsing to 240 all out. Keon De Jesus top scored with 93 (7×4, 2c6); Romario De Jonge made 42 and Julian Moore 22. Bowling for Port Mourant off spinner Bhojnarine Persaud claimed 4 for 21 from 4 overs, veteran left arm spinner Robert Moore 2 for 42 and Shameer Khan 2 for 50.
At the Area ‘H’ Ground in Rose Hall Town, defending champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets defeated Skeldon Community Centre by 5 wickets after bowling out the visitors for a meager 120 in 26.1 overs with only Anthony Bramble 26, Ganesh Ramnarine 21, Parmanand Narine 19 and Mark Lionel 13 reaching double figures.

Eon Hooper 24 and skipper Assad Fudadin 15 not out backed up well.
A determined Blairmont Community Centre arrested Police ‘B’ Division team by 81 runs at the Cumberland Ground in Canje.
Batting first after winning the toss, Blairmont was dismissed for a massive 302 in 45 of their allotted 50 overs; veteran Karamdat Bissoondyal struck an impressive 74 (8×4 1×6) with good contributions from Altaf Khan 66 and Omesh Mangal 56.
Wayne Richards 3 for 26 and Rocky Hutson 3 for 47 were the most successful bowlers for the Lawmen who were restricted to 221 in 38 overs. The leading contributors with the bat were Rawle Scott 44, Andel Lewis 36.
At the Edinburgh Ground on the East Bank of Berbice, fast growing Edinburgh scored a surprising two wicket win over an unorganised Young Warriors, playing without the services of national opener Richard Ramdeen for unknown reasons.
The visitors were bowled out for 164 in 44.1 overs after batting first having won the toss with Seon Hetmyer 47, Kevin Ramdeen 34 and Shimron Hetmyer 20 the principal scorers.
Off spinner Sasenarine Sukhdeo 3 for 25, O. Yadram 2 for 24 and left arm spinner Mark Sampson 2 for 28 did the bulk of the work with the ball for the home team.
A determined batting display from Edinburgh saw them home at 165 for 8 off 49 overs; Yogindra Seepersaud 48, Sukhdeo 38 and Z. Hussain 20 not out leading the way. Medium pacer Seon Hetmyer and off spinner Kevin Ramdeen with identical figures of 2 for 27 each bowled well in a losing cause.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Hilbert Foster expressed his delight at the high standard of play during the matches, encouraging crowd support and excellent weather.
The semifinals would be played on a date that would be agreed on by the Competitions Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board and would see Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets clashing with Blairmont Community Centre at the Area ‘H’ Ground and Port Mourant Karibee Rice at home to Edinburgh.
