Damaged Bagotstown home…
Almost one month after motor car PJJ 674 ended up in the top flat of a house at Lot 35 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, the driver of the car has been ordered by the court to stand repair cost for the damages.
According to the home owner Faizal Razack, the court ordered the driver, Robin Persaud to pay compensation.
Kaieteur News understands that Persaud handed over $800,000 to the family, following an appearance in the Providence Magistrates Court.
Yesterday when this publication visited the home carpenters were seen carrying out works on the house.
A spanking new fence was reinforced with metal works. According to Razack, the driver of the car has not paid the full amount according to his estimate but he is still satisfied that some compensation was made. He said that the money will also help to replace some of his household articles which were damaged in the accident.
On August 19 last Razack and his family of three got the shock of their lives when the car smashed into the upper flat of their two-storey house. At the time four persons were in the vehicle. Razack said he was in the lower flat of the house reading his Koran when he felt ‘an earthquake like shake’ and felt things falling on him. He added that he screamed for his wife who was in one of the bedrooms which is located in the upper flat of their home with their one-year-old daughter. He said as he looked up he was left in shock when he noticed the car parked in his living room and the occupants screaming for help. He helped to take four young men out of the car. He said that they appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
During his court appearance, the accused had alleged that he crashed into the house after swerving from an elderly woman and a child.
