The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the football fraternity has been plunged into a state of mourning following the death of President of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA), Sydroy Nedd.
Familiarly known as ‘Neddy’ or ‘Juene’, the late Administrator has been a tireless worker for the development of the game on the West Demerara and would have been associated with the Uitvlugt Football Club for many years.
President (ag) of the GFF Franklin Wilson said that the football fraternity has lost a very good friend, noting that Nedd, while not being in the forefront, made tangible contributions towards the development of the game in the West Demerara and by extension Guyana.
“He was not the vociferous kind of administrator but went about his duties in a quiet manner seeking to make a positive contribution to the game. He was always willing to assist in any way possible and would always have a smile on his face.”
“Football has lost a good friend and worker and on behalf of the GFF and the entire football family I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Sydroy Nedd, may his soul rest in peace.”
Need who had been ailing for some time now was also the Assistant Coordinator for the Mayor’s Cup Committee which is headed by former National Coach Lennox Arthur. In his early days he was a potent player for teams on the West Demerara and the East Bank of Demerara, while in his latter days he still continued to be active on the field of play with the West Demerara veterans.
The final whistle was blown on Nedd’s life on Friday last just days before his 56th birthday which he would have celebrated, today.
Arthur said apart from working with Nedd on the Mayor’s Cup Committee, he was a very close friend. “Neddy would have been a very active part of us on the Mayor’s Cup Committee for the past 14 years and his death has left us in a state of grief. We would like to extend our condolences to his family and relatives in this time of grief.”
Former GFF President Colin Klass, who was contacted for some information on Nedd, sent his condolences to Nedd’s family and said that football has suffered a great loss, more so West Demerara football.
Sydroy has left to mourn a son Orwell who is a Doctor residing overseas, three sisters and two brothers.
