Senior Members aligned to the Essequibo Coast and Pomeroon Cricket Umpires & Scores Association (ECPCUS) have lashed out at members of the Essequibo Cricket Board over outstanding money allegedly owed to them over the past three years.
According to information revealed to Kaieteur Sports the outstanding sum of money totaled $109,740 for matches played over the period of 2009- to September 09, 2011.
Essequibo Umpires are contending that despite monies being made available to pay umpires in Essequibo since 2010 through sponsorship no payments were made to Umpires by the President of the Essequibo Cricket Board.
An Essequibo Umpire said the matter was brought up at the Guyana Umpires Council but no avail “Every time the issue of the nonpayment was raised at our level, only promises are forth coming.”
Relating another incident where monies were again withheld, the Umpire explained that on Sept 8 this year, the Busta Semifinals in Wakenaam between Leguan and Central Essequibo was played and the Umpires not paid.
The Umpire noted that the President of the Essequibo Cricket Board proceeded to contact senior Umpires in Georgetown requesting that two of the Essequibo Umpires in Essequibo be overlooked for the match. Promises that all outstanding payments would have been made, but to date no monies, the Umpire said, has been paid.
As a final resort, the Umpire said the matter could engage the court’s attention.
