An attacking half century by Sunil Persaud followed by a 5-wicket haul from Ceonarine Oudit guided Rebels to victory over Maryville in the final of the Prakash Poultry Farm Under-15 40-overs cricket competition on Saturday last at the Enterprise Ground, Leguan.
Persaud struck 9 sixes in his top score of 78, Shivendra Hemraj supported with 39 (3×6 1×4) in Rebels’ challenging 185-6 after the game was reduced to 20 overs due to rain.
Offspinner Paul Debideen took 3-20 off 4 overs.
Maryville in reply were toppled for 54 in 16 overs, Paul Williams top scoring with 25 (1×6 3×4). Paul Simbu was the only other batsman that reached figures with 13 (2×4). Medium pacer Ceonarine Oudit orchestrated the downfall of Maryville capturing 5-20 off 4 overs, Hemraj with 2-16 from 3 overs was the perfect foil for Rebels which won the game by 31 runs.
Both teams were presented with trophies while Persaud took the man-of-the-match and most-valuable-player of the competition awards. He also collected trophies for being the second highest run scorer and wicket taker in the competition while Paul Williams and Ceenarine Oudit collected prizes for being the best batsman and bowler respectively in the competition.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony Chairman of the Leguan Cricket Committee (LCC) Virendra Chintamanie thanked the sponsors for making the competition reality while encouraging the players to take the game seriously.
