MCY&S Annual day of sports
“Thirty minutes of exercise every day will aid in a healthy lifestyle,” those were the words of Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony made during the opening ceremony of the Ministry of Culture Youth Home Affairs Annual Sport at Carifesta Sports Complex ground, yesterday afternoon.
Dr. Anthony also noted that if individuals practice this healthy lifestyle (exercising) along with a healthy diet, Guyana on the whole will be a healthy country collectively. The day of sports started with a March Pass after which 5 overs softball cricket was contested.
National Sports Commission (NSC) and Burrowes School of Art (BSA) played the semi finals with NSC defeating BSA by 36 runs.
The Sports Commission side continued their winnings ways in the final taking care of business against the President Youth Award Republic of Guyana (PYARG) line-up.
NSC scored 52 to which PYARG could only manage 32. Chaitram Choonilall and Munir Khan of NSC contributed 27 and 20 runs respectively while Herman Persaud took 2-7.
MCY&S A team conquered BSA 1-0 in the 5-a-side football; PYARG defeated National Cultural Centre 2-nil.
In the novel events, Roxanne Wilson and Ryston Austin won the Sack Race while Cindy Stewart of MCY&S hopped to victory in the bunny hop race. PYARG showed their skills in the Lime and Spoon ahead of MCY&S and National Cultural Centre.
Kanni Fyffe and Richard Holder of Kuru Kuru Training College were victorious of the Needle and Thread event.
