Phyllis Carter Memorial t/20 cricket in Leguan
Muneshwar Jattan hit an unbeaten 49, while Essequibo U-19 player Tulsieram Premnauth took 5-14 as their team Young Warriors recorded consecutive victories as the Phyllis Carter Memorial twenty/20 cricket competition continued last Friday in Leguan with two matches.
On Saturday at Enterprise, the home team went down to Young Warriors by 7 wickets. Enterprise batted first and made 112-9 in 20 overs. Christopher Carter scored 29 as Tyrone Narine took 3-14. Jattan then led young Warriors to 116-3 as they won the game in 13 overs.
On Sunday at the same venue, Young Warriors defeated Blenheim by 5 wickets. Blenheim took first strike and were bowled out for 77 in 15 overs. Shazaad Razack was their leading run getter with 28 not out as Tulsieram Premnauth, who bowls off spin, did the damage with the ball for Young Warriors who responded with 81-5 in 12 overs.
Shem Persaud was the principal scorer with 23 not out as former Essequibo U-19 pacer Kevin Gordon claimed 2-16.
Chairman of the Leguan Cricket Committee Verendra Chintamanie told Kaieteur sport that the competition will be put on hold for one weekend to accommodate the finals of the U-15 and U-19 tournament. Young Warriors lead the points table with 8.
