As he prepares to lead the incumbent People’s Progressive Party (PPP) into this year’s general elections, Donald Ramotar is not obsessed with the WikiLeaks disclosure in general, and on the cable involving the Publisher of Kaieteur News Glenn Lall, in particular.
This was revealed during a press conference held at Freedom House yesterday.
The PPP candidate described the WikiLeaks cables as interesting reading; as material based on opinions of the authors, hearsay, rumours, speculations and “dem boy seh… I don’t see a lot of hard evidence coming out of some of these things….still quite a bit is still gaff and wha’ dem boy seh.”
Commenting on the cable pertaining to Glenn Lall, Ramotar noted that although he had known Mr Lall for a very long time, he said “I haven’t concluded one way or the other.”
“I have known Glenn Lall for a long time but I can’t claim to know all of Glenn Lall’s business. I have no intimate knowledge of Glenn Lall’s business. I don’t know anything about his financial positions. I don’t know anything about his business contacts. I don’t see that my knowing Glenn Lall and what WikiLeaks said about Glenn Lall means that would be an obstacle in my path.”
Ramotar said that he knows a lot of people in society, but that does not mean that he is intimately involved in their business.
Underscoring the credence pertaining to the WikiLeaks cable on Glenn Lall, the PPP presidential candidate said, “What I have seen them writing on Mr. Lall is more like reports and some of it they claimed he told them, of which he (Lall) himself has said he has not said so and to me that is not an important thing.”
Noting that allegations of backtracking were being made against Glenn Lall, Ramotar said he knew there was a period in the country “when things were so bad and difficult that many, many people did a lot of illegal things, like eating wheat flour; and bread was very illegal in this country”.
