The nation’s top junior chess players will be engaged in competitive rivalry when the Guyana Chess Federation presents the Topco Juices Junior Chess Championship, a precursor to the National Junior championships, scheduled to get underway from Saturday September 10-18 next at the West Demerara Secondary School, Pouderoyen WCD.
Rounds three and four will get underway on Sunday 11 with the remaining four rounds scheduled to be contested over the following weekend, while the top seven finishers that will advance to the next stage and challenge Ron Motilall in a single round robin tournament for the national title.
Among those competing for such honours are Saeed Ali, Anthony
Drayton, Suhai Feng and Cecil Cox among others.
Meanwhile, Demerara Distilleries Ltd has once again acquiesced to tangible support towards the successful staging of the tournament and Wednesday afternoon last Marketing Representative Marlon Gravesande handed over the sponsorship package Tournament Director Irshad Mohamed even as he wished the organizers a successful tournament.
Mr. Gravesande reminded that his company is in the forefront where support to the game is concerned. This is the fifth tournament that the beverage company has supported so far for the year. The marketing rep further committed to continued support towards the promotion of the sport.
