Pemberton was elected Honorable Treasurer for WICCB
Guyanese Ganesh Singh and Oliver Kerr have been selected in the West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind 25-member training squad in preparation for the (WCCB) World Cricket Council for the Blind – T/20 Competition in Bangladesh in November 2013.
At the recently concluded West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind Annual General Council Meeting held in Jamaica in July, Guyanese Theresa Pemberton was elected unopposed, Honorable Treasurer for the period 2011-2013.
Guyanese Cecil Morris and Singh also attended the (DPI NAC) Disabled Persons International North America and Caribbean Conference which was held in August in Jamaica.
Singh, a B1 (totally blind) Guyana and West Indies cricketer, was elected Coordinator for the newly formed Regional Youth Network and also Youth Representative on the Regional Executive branch of the DPI NAC Inc.
“Despite not having any ground practice sessions due to lack of facilities Guyana’s Blind and Visually Impaired cricketers have been going through physical training sessions in the National Park on Sunday mornings.
When it rains the players have been using the Guyana Society for the Blind Building indoor facilities, while members of the Guyana Blind Cricket Association (GUYBCA) continue to be involved in workshops for capacity building and outreach visits to raise Blindness awareness,” Pemberton informed.
Pemberton said that through the Guyana Council of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities GUYBCA members have been sensitizing persons in Regions 2, 5 & 6 on the Persons with Disability Act 2010. This project is funded by the Government of Guyana.
“Some of our members are also involved in Project “Voting Rights”: Ensuring Access for Persons with Disabilities; this is being funded by USAID,” Pemberton added.
