A solid all round performance by ECI Cardinals propelled them to a comfortable 9 wicket win over Cargo Fighters XI last Sunday in the first match of a 20/20 tapeball 4 team Tournament at the National Culture Centre Tarmac.
ECI Cardinals won the toss and opted to field on a hot sunny afternoon. Tapeball veterans Brian Sukhai and Karranchand Indarjit started things off nicely with the latter grabbing three early wickets to setback the opposition.
Cargo’s skipper M. Munroe fought hard for his 15 before the introduction of spin in Tony Ramjewan who bowled well to grab three wickets in the middle that put the brakes on the score.
ECI’s Skipper Rawle Munroe then came and polished off the tail with three wickets to close Cargo Fighters innings for 89 in 14 overs. Number 10 batsman, Bowman made a rapid 19.
In reply, ECI Cardinals opening pair of Philip Jaiserrisingh and Vishnu Merhai put on a match winning partnership of 86 off just 9 overs to set up the victory.
Right handed Jaiserrisingh batted positively for 31 and the pint sized Merhai showed his worth by thumping 4 sixes in his unbeaten 43 to see his team over the line in the next over. The Tournament continues this weekend.
