Letitia Myles upset Tiffany Carto in the female 100m finals and returned to do the same in the 200m as she registered personal best times in the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) trials at Eve Leary Sport ground, yesterday.
Chavez Ageday won his 100m finals in a time of 10.7 ahead of Tevin Garraway’s 10.9 and Kevin Scott’s 11.3. After winning the 100m, Ageday was disqualified from the 200m leaving Stephan James and Kevin ‘de Menace’ Scott to battle for supremacy. James (22.0) proved that he was the better man as they battled down the homestretch for victory leaving Scott (22.5) in tears while Samuel Doris (22.7) was third.
Tevin ‘de Rocket’ Garraway surprised his counterparts in the boys long jump with a victory leap of 6.41m while Marlon Moshett and Maurice Gibson settled for second and third respectively with leaps of 6.06 and 5.46. Moshett won the boy’s triple jump with 12.50m as Marvin Tennis (11.71m) and Charwyne Hooper (11.18m) placed second and third.
Mellisa Byass outsprinted Javena Sampson in the girl’s 400m in 1:00.5 while Tiffany Smith clocked 1:02.7. James followed Byass’ lead as he too shattered the field in the boy’s 400m in 51.0.
Alita Moore came like the underdog after letting go the 100 and 200m for the long and triple jump. She leaped 10.45m ahead of Marcia Isaacs 10.41 and Juanita Hooper’s 9.94. Moore (4.76m) returned to the pit to secure another victory in the girl’s long jump while Hooper and Isaacs were second and third with leaps of 4.72 and 4.69m.
Birthday boy, Kevin Bailey (4:15.9) added another surprise to the day’s procedure with a victory in the 1500m ahead of Trevon George and Kareem Aaron. George returned to claim the 800m in a time of 1:59.4 as Bailey 1:59.6 was second.
The young, Andrea Foster won the girls 1500m ahead of two times Carifta Gold medalist, Javina Straker in a time of 5:10.2. Foster also claimed the girl’s 3000m ahead of Alexis Williams 12:38.
Nathaniel Giddings was first in the males 5000m in a time of 16:52.9.
Byass gave Straker the battle of her life as they came in neck to neck in 800m.
Lisa Bowman dominated in the field events as she was the victor of the girl’s Shot Putt and Javelin. Lawanda Whaul won the girl’s Discuss as Shiekele Scott won the boys, while Troy Lewis claimed the boy’s Javelin ahead of Michael Bowman.
