An abusive Sophia man should have known better than to shut both eyes after threatening to shoot his reputed wife with an illegal gun.
Royston James, who police say is a known character was caught sleeping with an unlicenced .32 pistol at his C Field, Sophia home around 18:30 hours on Saturday.
This newspaper learnt earlier in the day that James had physically abused his reputed wife, even threatening to shoot her.
The woman was initially afraid to report the matter to the police, so she waited until James was soundly asleep before making her move to the nearby Turkeyen Police Station where she reported the matter.
Ranks of a police mobile patrol responded immediately and caught the suspect sleeping.
He did not bother to conceal the firearm and sure enough a search of his person revealed the weapon in one of his pants pockets.
He was taken into custody and is expected to appear before court today.
