Police yesterday admitted to having erroneously detained two men who they thought were in possession of a quantity of cocaine.
A release had stated that at around 19:00 hrs on Friday, a police patrol approached a car, HB8230, which was parked on the roadway at Number 79 Village, Corriverton, Berbice.
The release stated that the occupants sped away as the ranks approached, but the lawmen caught up with them at Line Path, Skeldon. It said that ensuing investigations led to two kilograms of cocaine being recovered by the police.
Four men were arrested and the car impounded.
But police officials stated that subsequent tests on the substance revealed that it was not cocaine.
It is unclear what the substance actually was.
