Three ranks from the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) are reportedly under close arrest for demanding $3M from a cocaine dealer and also taking a portion of his drugs.
Sources said that a corporal and two constables were implicated after the alleged dealer secretly recorded them during the transaction.
Kaieteur News understands that the incident occurred Thursday, when the ranks arrested a man with four kilogrammes of cocaine.
According to sources, the ranks collected $3M from the dealer, but then still confiscated three kilogrammes of the drug.
But unknown to them, the man they had arrested secretly recorded the deal. The information was reportedly relayed to senior police officials and the ranks were placed under close arrest yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the ranks pleaded for a chance to return his portion of the money.
It is the second time in recent weeks that police ranks have been implicated in drug dealing.
Just about a week ago, several police ranks from the Mackenzie Police Station were questioned after over four pounds of marijuana disappeared from a locked strongbox.
A female rank was placed under close arrest during the initial stages of the investigation, but other reports have now surfaced which suggest that two other ranks sold the drugs to a Georgetown dealer.
Police are awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
