– players buoyant about performance
Four members of the Ladies national squad in invited comments with this
newspaper shortly after the team arrived in Georgetown via Suriname, unanimously announced that their performance at the Pan Am Challenge in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where they finished runners-up to qualify for the 2013 Pan Am Cup was nothing short of an outstanding achievement.
The four members Jonelle Webster, Tiffany Solomon, Avonda James and Trisha Woodroffe called the experience a tremendous one and they were all happy to be part of a team that showed admirable determination despite the great disadvantage they faced playing against teams that were accustomed to the artificial surface.
Webster in her comments said that it was a tremendous experience for her, especially the opportunity to be among a group of players who showed admirable determination and commitment.
Woodroffe in her remarks spoke of how proud they are of the achievement, adding that everyone was surprised with their performance.
Solomon said the result is significant not only for the Ladies team, but the sport of hockey.
She disclosed that she is extremely proud of the girls’ performance.
James another solid player revealed that the Brazilians were extremely surprised to know that they still play on grass, adding that that makes the performance more significant.
The team was coached by Philip Fernandes, while Rawl Davson acted as Manager.
A press briefing is set for Thursday, but full details will be known shortly.
