Digicel Guyana Inc. yesterday added Karate for the second consecutive year to
its growing list of support for local sports when it offered support for a ten-member Guyana team that will compete at the Caribbean Championships in Grenada.
Digicel’s Public Relations Manager, Shonnet Moore, said that the company “is pleased to be able to assist the karate team for the Caribbean Championships”. Moore said that Digicel offered their support last year and found that to be very fruitful.
“We are supporting youth development and Karate offers that with their discipline and structures for overall development. The sport helps to develop self-esteem in young people,” she added. It’s a continued effort to promote youth growth and sport.
Eighth Dan Black Belt, Frank Woon-A-Tai, thanked Digicel for their support. He said that funds to send the team abroad became much more necessary because of the current ongoing building of the Guyana Karate College that is being built at Lilliendaal.
Woon-A-Tai is the Founder and Chief Instructor of the International Karate Daigaka (College) & Founder of the Guyana Karate College. The team for the Caribbean Championships include eight athletes and two officials.
