Kares Engineering / Bushy Park Sawmills 10/10 Tapeball Cricket
Brushie XI created a major upset when they defeated favourites Tarmac ‘A’ to advance to the next round as play in the Kares Engineering / Bushy Park Sawmills 10/10 Tapeball Cricket Competition continued yesterday, at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
After posting what was considered a modest total of 95-3 off the allotted overs with N. Khan’s innings of 50 being the top-score, Brushie XI then restricted the opposition to 94-4 when the overs expired to win by 1-run in a nail-biting finish.
The high-touted Tarmac ‘A’ had earlier disposed of Kingston by a whopping 52 runs, but found a determined Brushie XI a more formidable foe and were eventually knocked out of the competition.
In other results:
The Pitbulls led by a swashbuckling 97 from national player Christopher Barnwell which included 13 maximums and 2 fours beat Tarmac ‘B’ by 93 runs to make t to the next round.
The Pitbulls made an imposing 191-5 and then dismissed Tarmac ‘B’ for 98 with Davendra Lall 36 and Ron Fraser 34 not out, being the principal scorers.
Tarmac ‘A’ then crushed Kingston by 80 runs.
Tarmac ‘A’ made 115-2 with Kenroy Cox hitting 63.
Kingston were then routed for a paltry 35.
The Pitbulls then beat GPOC by 53 runs.
The Pitbulls compiled 129-6 with Suresh Boodhoo stroking 47 and then bowled out GPOC for 76.
Cargo Flighters beat Transporters by 3 runs.
Cargo Flighters made 65 and dismissed Transporters for 62.
Kaikan Cosmos defeated Felix Austin Police College (FAPC) ‘A’ by 22 runs.
Kaikan Cosmos made 122-6 with F. Devonish belting 41.
FAPC ‘A’ reached 100, before being dismissed.
Cargo Flighters then beat Kaikan Cosmos by 4 runs.
Cargo Flighters made 70-4 and then bowled out Kaikan Cosmos for 66.
In Saturday’s results:
Despite an unbeaten 52 from Brent Jacobs, Viper XI failed to get past GPOC XI, falling short by 16 runs when the two teams met in the Georgetown Zone of the inaugural Kares Engineering and Bushy Park Sawmills sponsored nationwide 10/10 Tapeball Cricket Competition which continued, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue yesterday.
Felix Austin Police College ‘A’, Tarmac All-Star ‘B’, Education Warriors, Kaikan Cosmos, Cargo Fighters and Tarmac All Star ‘A’ all joined GPOC XI in the next round of the tournament, while Tennis Roll Squad were disqualified for using a player who represented another team, following a successful protest lodged by Cargo Fighters.
Batting first, GPOC XI scored 112 for 9 from their 10 overs, with Jermaine Ramroop top scoring with 22 (2×4, 1×6) while Roxroy Smith and Joseph Cupidore offered support with 20 and 18 respectively, following which Jacobs struck five sixes and four fours in his unbeaten innings, which was not good enough as Viper XI were bowled out for 96 in reply.
Earlier in the day, Trojan Warriors had earlier gotten a walk over from Charlestown and faced Felix Austin ‘A’ in their next encounter where they batted first and were bowled out for 80 with R. Sookram top scoring with 24 while L. Thom took 2 for 11 for Felix Austin ‘A’.
E. De Jonge then hit a top score of 21 that was decorated with four fours for Felix Austin ‘A’ who reached 81 for 5 in reply, to complete an easy victory.
Felix Austin ‘B’ failed to emulate their ‘A’ team, as they went under to Tarmac All Star ‘B’ team by 14 runs in an exciting encounter, after the latter batted first and scored 114 for 5 of which Keshar Augustus made 28 (2×6, 1×4) and Travis Johnson 17.
K. Boston took 2 for 14 for Felix Austin ‘B’ who were bowled out for 100 off the final delivery of their reply, despite T. Motilall contributing 38 (5×6, 1×4), as Devendra Lall, Sean Hughes and Rakesh Persaud took two wickets for 7, 30 and 30 runs respectively.
Education Warriors defeated Kingston Cricket Club by six wickets in a one sided encounter, with Kingston being bowled out for 65, to which Education Warriors reached 66 for 4 from five overs in reply.
Kaikan Cosmos faced Lodge Young Gunners and proved to their opponents who are the better side as they walked away with a six wickets victory.
Batting first, Lodge Young Gunners accumulated 90 runs, thanks to Aubrey Clarke’s unbeaten 47 which was decorated with six sixes and one four, while Christopher Devonish took 5 for 28 for Kaikan Cosmos who reached 91 for 4 in reply, with Trevor Bailey contributing 24.
Terry Liverpool struck four sixes and three fours in his 47 for Banks Warriors who only managed to score 89 in their encounter against Tarmac All-star ‘A’, who reached 90 for 6 in reply, of which no individual scores were available.
In the final game of the day, Cargo Fighters who were buoyed by their protest victory earlier in the day, faced GBTI and showed the bankers who the better team was, as they walked away with a comfortable 37 runs victory.
Joshua Wade 45 (5×6, 3×4), Samuel Ward 25 (3×6) and Alex Ramalho 24 (2×6, 2×4) all contributed healthily to Cargo Fighters’ 129 for 3, to which GBTI were limited to 92 from their 10 overs, with Feroze Jafferally top-scoring with 37 (3×6, 2×4), while Ramalho took two wickets for 6 runs.
