Ruimzigt fatal accident…
The driver of the car which was involved in the accident at Ruimzigt, West Coast Demerara, on Thursday, which resulted in the death of 8-year-old Joshua Daniels, is expected to appear at the Vreed-en-hoop Magistrate’s court later today.
This publication was told that up to press time yesterday the man remained in police custody and is expected to witness the child’s post mortem after which he will appear in court.
In the meantime, as the investigation continues, the man has reportedly told investigators that he applied brakes and swerved onto the parapet in an attempt to avoid hitting an oncoming car when he lost control of his vehicle.
On Thursday, Joshua Daniels was killed almost instantly as he stood transfixed while a car came hurtling in his direction.
Daniels, of North West District, was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The child had come down to spend the August vacation with his elder sister. The incident occurred in front of the sister’s home. An eyewitness to the accident, Fizul Khan, who is also the dead child’s brother-in-law, said that Joshua, his three siblings and a cousin were playing next to his car on the bridge.
“I see the car flipping in the air and coming towards de road corner and the rest ah children run away but Joshua stand up staring.” Within seconds, Khan said, the car crashed, flipped over the trench, broke through a bridge and then slammed Joshua into his parked car. There were reports that the driver of the car immediately fled the scene, however a source close to the investigation said that the man was running from the location after it appeared as if villagers wanted to attack him.
