The People’s Progressive Party has reacted to the crash of BW523 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, yesterday.
In a statement, the party said that it is extremely relieved that there was no loss of lives after a Caribbean Airlines flight BW 523 overshot the runway at the CBJ Timehri International airport early this morning.
“At the same time, the party also wishes those injured a speedy recovery and is heartened by reports that there are no life-threatening injuries.”
The Civil Aviation Authority along with airport officials which falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministries of Health and Home Affairs, the Guyana Defence Force and Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service among others, should be commended for their response and effective implementation of their emergency operating procedures, the PPP stated.
The party also hopes that a thorough investigation will soon be launched to determine the factors which contributed to this accident as well as an assessment of our emergency response systems in such a situation to determine how we can further improve our capabilities in this regard.
