The three-day ‘Building Expo’ 2011 which opened yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, has attracted in excess of 30 corporate sponsors and a huge opportunity for persons who are looking to construct their homes as well as for persons who want to expose their product.
Some of the exhibitors at the event are Ashmins Fun Park & Resort Inc, Machinery Corporation Of Guyana, SPR Enterprises, Vimara Partners Ltd., Toolsie Persaud Ltd & Group of Companies, Didco Trading Company Limited, Friendship Hotel & Restaurant Holdings Ltd., Demerara Bank Limited, Republic Bank, New Building Society, Duravilla Homes Guyana Inc., Hand-in-Hand Trust Corporation, Starr Computers amongst many others.
The Building Expo is aimed at responding to the housing and construction needs of Guyanese; fostering home ownership and catapulting the construction sector; creating and advancing linkages among stakeholders local, regional and international in the construction and housing sector.
Local, Regional and International stakeholders in construction will be given an opportunity to display and trade their products, trade ideas, designs, and network during this exposition during seminars which will be conducted.
Real estate developer Omprakash Shivraj, who is currently developing house lots at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, and who has a model at the exhibition site, said that one of the houses on a 60 × 120 plot of land would cost $16M. It will include three bedrooms (one of which would be self-contained), a shared ablution area, dining area, living room amongst other installations.
Shivraj explained that his construction company’s presence at the expo is to underscore the development capabilities with the stylish and classy houses that are for sale at the new housing scheme at New Providence.
Another company that has been in the construction field for decades, “HomeWell builders” was displaying a North American-style 30×30 house with a unique design and feature.
Halvard George, a director of the company and who is representing the company at the exposition, said that the organisation only became a company in 2003 but has been in the field for decades. He said their house on display carries a price of which starts at $7.5M but would carry a higher price depends on the features and upgrades being installed.
This includes two bedrooms, one shared bath, living room, dining room, laundry room, two decks amongst other installations.
He noted that the land and house can be sold together to any consumer who may request. Further, the company can build a house to any specification on land provided.
TCL Guyana Inc. (TGI) officials at the expo disclosed that patrons are encouraged to visit their booth especially those who are in the process of building their own homes. A wealth of information will be available that will be of tremendous assistance to home builders, as well as an opportunity to benefit from promotions.
TGI, the supplier of the popular Pozzolan Cement, made the announcement of its arrangement with the Ministry of Housing to provide this facility to land-owners when it participated in last year’s building exposition.
The horticulture sector was also represented at the expo, Juliet Nurse, said horticulture is a main part of the construction industry specifically landscaping which accounts for 25 per cent of property.
She said although the market is not competitive, persons are becoming more conscious about the need to have a pleasant and healthy surrounding. And in the information technology era persons are learning the benefits of the green world drive.
In the security sector at the expo Neal and Massy Guyana Group displays security devices such as intercom systems, detectors, electronic access control, CCTV cameras, safety equipment, fire detectors and controls, amongst other items.
Technical specials of the Neal and Massey said the aim is to sensitize Guyanese to its safety and security offerings and while the expo will showcase all aspects of security, the focus is mainly on Electronic Security Systems and Safety Products.
For the banking sector Republic Bank representative Allison Barkie said that this year there will be representative from the bank’s commercial and corporate sections who would be speaking directly to business persons.
She said personnel will be present to inform the public about mortgages and to let home ownership be possible for everyone.
Adding that the bank has the lowest interest rates for home loans, Barkie said there is now a set for life mortgage, that will be introduced for persons wanting to fix their fence or any other upgrade in whatever field they desire.
