The national Ladies hockey team and the Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation (GABBFF) were the beneficiaries of the sustained generosity of cellular giants Digicel when the Company handed over separate sums of money to them yesterday, at its Head Office in Kingston.
In handing over a cheque for $150,000 to the GABBFF, Public Relations Manager of the Company Shonnet Moore in remarks said that they were indeed pleased to be partnering with the entity, adding that from all reports received the event promises to be an exciting one.

The financial assistance offered is to assist the GABBFF in its hosting of the Mr and Miss Guyana Body Building and Fitness Championships which will be held on Sunday, at the Theatre Guild, starting from 19:00 hrs.
Also, in attendance were President of the Body Fiona Harris, Treasurer Devon Wray and powerlifter Mark Seymour.
Harris after expressing thanks to Digicel gave a brief overview of the activity, informing the media of some of the athletes who will be participating in the championships.
According to Harris, apart from reigning Ladies champion Alisha Fortune, who will be unable to defend her crown due to her participation at the Alba Games in Venezuela, all the other top performers from last year are expected to grace the stage.
Among those are last year’s runner-up Letitia Myles and top contenders Kacia Beaton and Nadina Taharally, while current champion in the Men’s category Lindener Clint Duke, bantamweight champion Devon Davis and CAC silver medallist Marlon Bennett are all confirmed for the event.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Hockey Board which received an undisclosed sum to offset expenses for their travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to participate in the Pan Am Challenge Cup was represented by team Captain Chantelle Fernandes, a few members of the squad and Manager Rawl Davson.
Fernandes, who spoke on behalf of the team, thanked Digicel for coming on board once again to support the sport, pointing out that they’ve done so in the past.

Commenting on the preparation of the team, Fernandes said that they’ve done all they could, referring to the training camp in Trinidad and Tobago as a positive in addition to the rigorous stint at home which started since earlier this year.
She said the team is excited and in good spirits and they are satisfied with the preparations.
The top two teams from the competition will join six other teams that have already qualified from the Pan Am region for the 2013 World Cup.
