– Woman beaten after confronting mother of child suspects
Police are investigating a mother and her teenage son and some delinquent youths who orchestrated to break and enter the premises of a Minister of a church at Lot G Norton Street, Lodge, on Sunday night.
This resulted in a confrontation between Peggy Julian, who is the niece of the Minister of the Church, and the woman who allegedly masterminded of the act.
Residents in the area disclosed that Ms Julian was attacked and lashed in her head with a stick after revealing to the woman that she was seen stopping a taxi for her son and his accomplice, after they had removed items from the house in Norton Street, Sunday night.
Ms Julian was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was treated.
“This lady is encouraging her children to thief all the time. They got this condemn building that they are living in, and all the thieves are living there…The government need to do something about condemn buildings because they terrorizing the neighbours and stealing, and people can’t talk. When I talk to she is one lash I get,” Ms Julian said.
Reflecting upon the night of the incident, she said that the police were summoned from Ruimveldt Police Station and after their arrival the police said that if any of the perpetrators of the theft were seen, the police should be called or notified and police would visit.
However, yesterday before she sustained her injuries to the head, Ms Julian said that the police at Ruimveldt Police Station were called. “The police say is a private matter and say that they can’t come. Then I went into her yard to complain to her about her child and the woman lash me and I fight back.”
According to Ms Julian, the woman said that she does not care what anybody say about her children. “This is the same children that steals from our yard and in the neigbourhood.”
Residents in the area revealed that on Sunday night two children were seen staking out the house at Lot G Norton Street, Lodge which also has a church in the compound, while another two teenagers were seen exiting the yard.
The mother of one of the delinquent youths then appeared and stopped two separate taxis for each set and they disappeared.
“The mother says that she children got to thief to mine she, and if she got to prostitute she self to get them out of jail if they get catch she will do so,” one woman said.
Minister of the Church, Ms Hazel Barker, said that she visited a function between 20:30 hrs and 23:00hrs Sunday night last and after returning home she discovered that her washing machine was out of place.
Ms Barker explained then she alerted persons who were in her company, and told them that it appeared as if the house was broken into. Upon a closer examination it was noted that three small boards were removed at the rear of the house on the upper flat and the washing machine was pushed aside for someone with a small figure to squeeze through.
She said that all the rooms in the house were ransacked; her computer and desk along with many other items were out of place.
She said a call was made to the police station and a statement was taken, but police requested that nothing be tampered with until the crime scene investigators did their fingerprinting. Another rank told her that it was a private matter.
Yesterday they did visit and the police stated that there were no fingerprints since it appears as if the perpetrators used gloves.
Ms Barker said that upon checking she noticed that the church collection was missing as were many other valuable items.
According to Ms Barker she cannot estimate her losses since the packing up has not yet started.
When Ruimveldt Police Station was contacted a female rank said that she was not in a position to give out any information to Kaieteur News.
