The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) recently donated $750,000 worth of basic food items and fuel to Region Nine flood victims who were most hard hit.
In making the presentation, Bank Manager Andre Yhap, said that the bank was very concerned about the effects of the flood and that management had immediately offered a flood relief loan of a maximum of $350,000 at a rate of six per cent interest to assist farmers, businesses and residents generally who were affected by the June 2011 floods in the Region.
It was noted that the donation was made through two agencies, the Regional Democratic Council and Beacon Foundation, which are expected to reach out to communities in the North Rupununi, Katoka, and other riverain areas.
According to Yhap, over 50 persons have already benefited form the loan facility and response from flood hit victims is encouraging.
Some beneficiaries of the loan, who were high in praises for the facility said it was a good gesture and of great help for those who are in need.
