“We serve” is the international motto for the Lions Club and indeed, “serve” they do. Yesterday the Lions Club of Durban Park was presented with twenty white canes from the Kayamaggi Lions Club by Joseph D’Oliveira of California.
The canes went towards the Sight First Committee within the club, who will distribute them to twenty most needy persons.
The canes were presented to the new President, Joycelyn Dias, in the presence of the Lion Secretary, Capucine Phillips; the Immediate Past President (IPP), Sandra Kurtzious; and approximately thirteen present Lion members.
At the ceremony, D’Oliveira told this newspaper that he is “always willing to help in any way he can”.
Currently, the club comprises fifty members. However, there are about thirty-eight who are well active.
The meeting was the beginning of the new fiscal year which runs from July to June. The newly elected president, Joycelyn Dias was congratulated during the simple ceremony.
